Well, after all of the reasonable stuff I’d do (Pay debts, invest conservitavely, kill enemies, etc), I’ve always wanted to open an Antique Software store. As well as a privately owned movie theater.
I’d probably give a lot of money to the local Air Museum (And maybe a MiG-29), and the library systems for the local counties.
After that, a VERY grand private library. I’m thinking “Guggenheim museum” with oak paneling, and bookshelves in place of, you know, floors. And about three times higher. But keeping the skylight.
And maybe get into financing some movies…I’ve always wanted to see an Anime version of “All Quiet on the Western Front.” Or a decent version of “Congo.”
What’s a large sum? A million? A billion? Tens of billions?
First of all, I’ll quit my job and take a break. After a month or so of vacation I’ll start planning my own business. The size and nature depends on the amount of money I won. A million, probably a small consulting company. A billion, some kind of investment partnership. Tens of billions, a high tech company focused on R&D.
Very first thing I would do is move back home where my family lives. Wouldnt have to worry about a place to live or not having a job or savings. I could just be back with my family.
I know that there are real capitalists on this board. I wish they’d give some specifics on the “invest and live off interest” part.
I’ve paid off my own debt already-- it was the first thing I did with a small inheritance I got. I’d buy a house. I even know which one I want. It is a modest house but it costs 1.2 mil. Location is everything.
My kid’s college is taken care of. I’d get them each a car. Not a house though, they can get that themselves. But the house I’d buy has a nice, seperate room for each of them. If they can stand living with their mother they’ll always have a nice place to live.
I would not pay off any of my relative’s debts because I’ve seen what they did with their inheritance (since Febuary they have spent it all, are crying broke and asking me for money— and I got less than every single one of them)
Then I’d figure out how much I’d need to retire at 40 and write.
