Just ask him a bunch of questions about his special forces training and stuff like that, as if you totally believe him. Then post all his answers here.
If he falls for that, great! Definitely do it.
I am predicting a “its classified” answer though.
Go here (SFW) and read the Walt threads in the NAAFI Bar forum (possibly NSFW, which is why I’m not linking directly). Note that they won’t directly help you expose a Walt but you should pick up a good few tips.
BTW I didn’t pick up if the guy says he’s US SF or another country’s.
I wouldn’t do anything. What difference does it make if he’s lying, telling the truth or has simply created a persona?
It’s fun to expose lying assholes.
Heck, several of the cross-gender-tooned people I know in WoW say “if I’m going to be looking at my toon’s ass for hours, I want it to be an ass I like looking at!”
Yesterday the sister of one of my guildies was visiting him during a raid and found out that one of our all-female-toons players is a guy. Her brother said she almost fainted… me, I usually play female toons, but I don’t expect the toon to match the pupetteer.
I didn’t ask him what he does for a living. He chose what details to give me, and if he’s lying, he chose to lie to me for no reason. When he tells me he’s capable of keeping his wolf under control except for when his pack goes to war, that’s part of the game. If he tells me he is SF, when he is not, that is just asshole behavior, and I don’t hang with assholes any longer than I have to. To me, its a world of difference.
It seems to be a general rule of thumb that people who actually are ‘special forces’ either tend to not mention it at all (and instead just call themselves parachute instructors or radio specialists or whatever) or just say flat-out that they are a blah-blah with so-and-so unit. If they are all mysterious about it then they are probably bullshitting.
I’ve dealt with people in various games who created wildly out there personas for themselves. (one was a single woman who invented multiple ‘real’ personas…including a brother and sister with detailed backstories) It happens.
If you think he’s an asshole then don’t deal with him anymore.
+1
If you put this situation if a little different context, many dates would react quite negatively to ‘special forces.’ Someone who has had this experience would be a little more tentative in throwing it out there right away.
I would agree with a lot of the posters here - he sounds like he is giving you a load of crap.
Right now mrAru and I are dealing with all the assorted tasks involving my fathers death on tuesday. I knew he had a bronze star … I saw it a few years back when he was cleaning out a desk looking for something else, but I just found out when I needed to get a copy of his form6 [the ancient version of the DD214] that he had 2 bronze stars and a silver star … I knew a lot of his war stories, but to be honest, I have no idea what he did to get the silver star … but I know it wasnt for playing nice with them foreigners … and I know a lot of his military buddies, and invariably they dont discuss their records at all - and my dad joked that he drove a truck in the war … [he was in an armored division, and he may have driven a half track, but you dont get a silver star for following the laws of the road and being a polite driver!]
