I could probably find several articles on the general topic of language as a way of identifying oneself within one’s community, but I think people choose to type this way because it is unique to a certain subset of people and creates a sense of unity. I look at it as just a more extreme version of the way people who post on this board call themselves Dopers and make references to squid, pie, bacon, and 1920’s style Death Rays.
Before I read Earl’s second post I thought young, uneducated, white female.
Some of the subject matter (dogs having to poop, missing family members, loving life, God and homies) simply doesn’t seem like something a guy would post.
Other than that it made my head hurt and I only skimmed it enough to get the gist.
I have a strong suspicion that the last entry is likely to be “lyrics” from something, or intended to be read as such. They have that same stream of I really didn’t want to know what was in your consciousness vibe to them.
Those others, I feel ashamed to admit it, but I could read them just fine. They look like the majority of Fb posts, as far as I could tell. Maybe a little more or less religion and god depending on where you’re at, but the writing isn’t any better or worse than most of what I see there.
