Is there a similar reason why you use the word “like” in written communication, too?
I use “like” when I want to use the force it gives (or I think it gives).
example:
I saw like 20 boys there. I use “like” to indicate it is just an estimate, not exactly 20.
Whenever I use “like” in written communication, I think it adds something to the sentence. Maybe you say I should use “about” or “approximately”, but saying “like” is the way I talk.
You know, if you want a store that’s going to be mostly women, you should try going into fabric stores. Hang around the pattern books for a while or the thread section where they have all the different colors of thread. There’s hardly ever any guys in there.
I wasn’t looking for a store with women, I was simply commenting on what I observed (and I left it out of the OP because it wasn’t relevant, but then I saw other people make posts that they would expect mostly boys or something, and then I added my observation)
I’m too shy to interact with girls anyway
OTOH any girls you meet there will assume you’re gay.
You could just tell them that you’re a LARPer or miniatures painter. On second thought, tell them you’re gay, you’ll have more luck with the ones that want to “turn” you.
There’s a place near me called “The Game Keep” which is mainly tabletop miniatures, RPGs and boardgames. No videogames. So I would have expected something of the kind.
You’re in luck then, because most fabric stores won’t have any girls to make you nervous, just older women. If you’re still nervous talking to them, pretend you’re talking to your mom or grandma, which should relax you just long enough to ask them on a date.
Oddly enough, the miniatures painters I know in my gaming group ARE gay, so funny that you should mention it.
(Another “professional” looking girl here. I work in a library, and have to be both conservative and comfortable in my work attire - that translates to *boring *most of the time. I get the strangest looks in my comics/gamer store.)
My first thought was tabletop games, but then I thought “No, if it was that obvious, he wouldn’t have asked. Paintball equipment, maybe?”. Video games never even crossed my mind.
Oh, and as for stores where one might find a large number of young women, around here, that’s the hardware stores, for some reason. As in, tools and lumber and nuts and bolts. The biggest and best hardware store seems to be staffed entirely by college-aged ladies.
Fabric-store women can only turn low-level homosexuals.
I’m in college I don’t have any problem finding girls; I am just to shy too talk to them
Which is exactly why you should start with older fabric store women. They will make you feel comfortable and help you get over your shyness.
Now I’m sure you’re asking how dating older women will help you stop being shy around college girls. It’s simple: many of these ladies will have college-aged daughters and granddaughters you can practice talking to.
Trust me on this, I would never steer you wrong.
Well, at least us old school gamers know where to find a decent shop in Cary, NC.
Indeed, they need to gain more levels (such as by multi-classing into home-decor-store women) in order to gain the ability to turn higher-level homosexuals.
I have no idea. I have seen people LARPing a whole lot more often than playing the sort of games the store really sells, though. If it wasn’t for Harry Dresden, I wouldn’t be aware that the dice based games were still out there.
I would have thought video games too. I didn’t even know people still played those other games.
LARPing is a trifle more visible hobby than tabletop gaming, what with it often being done in public while wearing odd clothing, rather than in someone’s dining room or the back of a specialty store while wearing (generally) normal clothing. Far, far more people play tabletop RPGs and wargames than LARP games.
On a tangent: Jim Butcher used to LARP in addition to playing tabletop games, though I don’t think he’s active anymore. I found it amusing that he managed to drag Harry into both at one point or another.
I’m 53, so I’m old enough to be a grandma. I hang out in both gaming stores AND fabric stores. In fact, I’m fairly picky about my fabric stores. I prefer to shop in the high end ones.
