OK, so I’m about 3/4 of the way to opening an independent comic shop. The staffing is ready with an experienced manager and assistant manager. The inventory is on order but won’t ship until I say so, the location is down to two choices and the marketing rollout in being prepped.
But we’re having trouble with the name.
Right now we’re at:
The Black Lotus Games Comics and Art
The Final Quest Games Comics and Art
Dungeon Crawl Games Comics and Art
So I told them I’d try to crowd source some names. Anyone have anything?
The Black Lotus sounds to me like the name of a brothel.
Final quest… meh.
Dungeon Crawl… that has serious potential. Its catchy and when someone says they want to go the Dungeon Crawl this weekend it’ll be pretty clear what they’re talking about.
Dragon’s Lair.
D20 Comics
Callahan’s (Slightly obscure Spider Robinson reference and you can always claim that you’re only the manager and the owner is an absentee when you have to deal with unpleasant idiots that demand to see them.)
The Dungeonmaster’s Cave and Library
Games Vulcans Play
Game Theory and Comics
The Wizard’s Realm of Sequential Art and Minimax Practice
Nerd Heaven
Graphic Novels and Polytope Dice
I’ll admit the name Black Lotus would make me less likely to visit a game store. I’ve seen several places that call themselves games stores but when I visited them, I found the overwhelming majority of the inventory is Magic, a game I have no interest in.
That said, I realize there are a lot of Magic players out there. But unless you’re aiming for them to be the bulk of your customers, you might want to choose a title that goes beyond Magic.
