what'd you get from work?

My boss gave me a bottle of Tangerine Spice antibacterial soap. What the hell is that supposed to mean?

A free hamburger. Seriously. They’re buying us lunch, Hamburgers… limit one. This from one of the largest, and considered by most the best technical call center in the world.
A hamburger.

From the U, I got zilch. That’s normal. But our office does a gift exchange at our holiday party (and the meal is paid for there). I also participated in an inter-office secret santa thing. So I got some little things from coworkers.

No bonus, no fun money. Plus my husband just learned that they won’t make their threshold for a royalty earn out this quarter, so he’s getting NOTHING. Royalties are how he gets paid, so this is like a paycheck for zippo. Thank you Santa. Thank you company which bought out his parent company, which is now driving his division into the ground. Thanks a lot!

Zip from the company but lots of little stuff from our sales people in the field and the girls in the office. So far, we’ve gotten hot apple cider mix, hot cocoa mix, chocolate chip cookies, cookie mix, hallmark ornaments, candles, coffee mugs, biscotti and chocolate. Not too bad but I’d rather have a bonus!

We got a $1200 bonus, which they tax the hell out of at bonus rates, plus a matching $1200 in the 401K. I can’t complain!

Feh. I got a performance evaluation. And an invitation to a 5 hour staff meeting complete with continental breakfast. That better be a damned good bagel.

I work for a major new media/telecom company.
Corporate policies include:
No Christmas/holiday parties allowed
No end of year/christmas bonuses given.

Instead, the President and COO (not the CEO) is spending this week personally visiting each employee to extend the warmest holiday greetings possible in a given 30 second period. At least that’s how much time he spent with me this morning. He’s probably flying around the country first class and staying in very nice hotels each night. Cheap bastards!

Other than this bought of “holiday cheer,” I do enjoy my work at least.

The more I think about this the more pissed off I get. This one call center that I work at, out of probably a dozen scattered around the world, alone does tech support for Dell, Micron, BellSouth DSL, Earthlink and Logitech.

They’re buying us a HAMBURGER! The cheap bastards!

How 'bout a bigger workspace instead… blah!

In the mail: A bottle of Sekt and two pretty cool decorated champagne glasses.

“Weihnachtsgeld”: Half a month’s salary added to the December paycheck. (It’s in the contract, but it’s still rather nice!)

Bonuses will be computed in January  One can get used to working in Germany!

S. Norman

Hooray! A little yellow spring-loaded string device that allows me to leave my security badge clipped to my shirt pocket but still able to swipe it against the little magnetic doohicky!!

Wahoo!!

(Remind me to swipe some ball point pens on the way out today).

Nothing really. But my dad’s bringin’ me home some Cuban Cigars (and he owns the company I work for).

In Sylvania, Ohio? Not a chance in Hell.

A $25 gift certificate to Best Buy. This compares with the booty my wife has brought home:

For Thanksgiving–
2 pound box of Fannie May chocolates, retailing at about $30.
28 pound turkey.

For Christmas–
A Poinsetta
Bonus equaling a month and a half take-home.
A raise and more hours so that’s “only” a month take-home.

Actually dropzone, we do have a pretty damned good Jewish deli here and Barry’s a hell of a guy.

First: Barry’s Bagels…mmmmmmmm, yum! (and are you going the the AA dopefest?)

Next: it’s my first year with this company, so I’m not sure if I get anything, and since I’m at a client 230 miles away, I don’t even get to hear scuttlebutt around the office! We did get a black-tie Christmas party last weekend. Top-shelf liquer and excellent food + drawings for prizes ranging up to a weeks cruise for 2. I won a grab bag with: three mugs, a shirt and 2 pens- all with the corporate logo (which is changing in late January  ). Oh, and I get the day after Christmas off.

The company I used to work for: no bonus’, but we got X-mas eve to the first Monday in January off as holiday, which usually amounted to about 10-12 days paid.

Hmmmm, well, let’s see. A picture frame for our complimentary 5x7 photo that was taken at the holiday party (me and hubby). My immediate boss gave us all a nice polo shirt embroidered with the company and department logos (nice shirt–teal with a navy collar and burgundy placket and embroidery). My former supervisor and good friend will probably have a gift for me, but we will exchange gifts on Thursday, since she’ll be out on Friday. Other than that…ZIP! My hubby is a county employee, so all he’ll get is…you guessed it, ZIP!

I got a small bottle of peach-scented hand lotion, which probably cost them all of $1.00. They are also having a Christmas party, but if you want to bring your spouse, it will cost you $25 (which is why I’m not bothering to go). My husband did slightly better. He got a tote bag with the company logo on it and a free lunch. Also, just in time for Christmas, he found out that the raise he is supposed to be getting in January has been deferred until at least June or July.

Last year we got two $5 gift certificates each for the movies. Not actual passes, mind you, but a total of $10 in certificates. I live in New York, that gets me one ticket and a straw.

We don’t get holiday bonuses, or at least the support staff doesn’t. My guess is that the union would frown on it, if it was merit based (they successfully argued against merit pay in general, so bonuses based on performance would be right out as well).

No word yet on what we’ll receive this season. We do have a rather nice party; the staff shindig sort of trickles into the student party, which starts two hours later, so a good time is generally had by those who don’t have to go home especially early.

I do exchange gifts with my boss and a good friend who also works here, but there’s no Secret Santa or anything like that.

A bleeding ulcer.

Damn, oldscratch, hook me up!

Federal Employee here… so zippety-doo-dah

But we ARE getting a whopping 3.58% raise the first of the year.

Hubby got something less than a month’s pay for a bonus. It was nice, but actually, they screwed him by “moving” him within the corporate structure several times. This is the 5th Christmas and the first bonus… ho ho ho

Yes. Yes we do.

I got a mug. Wheee!

Oh, but at the Christmas party I won a video of “Titan AE”. They actually had some pretty decent door prizes this year - TVs, DVD players, VCRs, etc.
