Friday afternoon, my boss stopped in with a large box, reached in and handed me a small wrapped present, saying something like, “happy holidays from the firm.” I’m thinking, “ooo! a notepad!” or something else equally silly, but lo and behold, it was a pocket-sized clock radio/picture frame! Not too shabby for a company gift, esp. given that i’ve wanted a radio in my office for a while now, but was too lazy to go out and get one.
I wonder if the company is implying something by giving me an alarm clock.
What’d everyone else get from their employers? I’m hoping we don’t get too many pink slip stories, though that seems to be all the rage this year.
I got nothing yet. And I probably won’t. I’ve been a temp here for almost two years now…and I didn’t get anything from them last year, either…cheap bastards!
We’re arguably underpaid, but come Christmas time, the company I work for hooks us up! This year, the four presents we had to choose from were: a camcorder, a micro-system (is that what you call those wee little mini-system things?) that included minidisc, a Sony DVD player, and a JVC home theater system (including receiver, 5 satelite speakers, and a subwoofer).
Unfortunately, I got the absolute last number for the order to pick presents, so I didn’t get the camcorder. On the plus side, my folks are getting a better DVD player…
(We also get paid vacation from the 25th through January 1st, albeit at the expense of some other holidays.)
Satellite, and let’s pretend I used semi-colons between items (which is to say that the micro-system thingy did not include a DVD player and a home theater system).
A Palm M100. Of course, I’m supposed to enter all my appointments into it, but I’m sure I’ll end up installing a few games. ;)Oh yeah, I also got a one pound bag of chocolates.
I got an envelope with an EFT supplement receipt–I got a very nice bonus for the holidays. It was in my inbox this morning. I’d take that over coffee any day of the week.
Our Quarterly meeting is at 1:30 today so I’ll find out if we get anything in about 12 minutes. Last year we got first aid kits. I keep mine in my car and it’s actually come in handy a couple of times. Rumor has it that we’re not getting a year-end gift. We don’t even have Christmas parties/dinners anymore. We have a “holiday tea” and get finger foods and punch for free on our afternoon break. Whoo hoo!
My boss gave me a $25 gift certificate for a great local steakhouse though. That was pretty cool. He also gave me a bag of Hershey’s chocolate! Yum!
Christmas bonus: $291.20. It’s actually longevity pay, but they give it to us just before Christmas. Oh, and we have off December 25 through January 2, paid, in addition to all the other holidays.
This will be my first Christmas with this company so I don’t know if we get anything but I am a Purchaser so I do get a ton of things from my vendors. So far I have gotten a ton of gourmet chocolate, fruits, cookies and even a Compaq iPaq PDA. Unfortunately I had to return the last item with a note explaining why I couldn’t accept it because of company policy. Oh well its the thought that counts.
First we had the Christmas Jazz lunch, with cajun food.
Then we had India Appreciation Day, in recognition of all our imported contractors, with Indian food.
Today we had the Holiday Lunch, with mainstream murrican food.
Thursday our boss is taking our group out to the Olive Garden for lunch.
The potluck was a ‘goodie day,’ where everybody brought in christmas munchies.
No actual tangible gifts, though. Not yet, anyway…
my supervisor: a tea bell and loose tea (I love tea)!
the accountant bought us each a large poinsettia.
the state office president: a bottle of Korbel champagne (out of his own pocket for each of us)
Not bad for someone who doesn’t celebrate holidays (but I give gifts anyway).
An insulated hot/cold combination cooler filled with a bag of Harry & David pretzels (as if they were any better than Rold Gold), a fudge mix, a pancake mix, chocolate covered almonds, a water filter, 2 gift certificates, a cheese ball and crackers, a scented lotion gift pack, a jar of honey mustard dipping sauce, and a Christmas card laser-signed by the CEO.
