Whatever happend to Primestar (wireless cable service)?

Did they just go out of business, or were they bought by some larger company.

For those that don’t remember, their service came from a relatively small satellite dish as opposed to the giant ones often seen behind mobile homes.

This article suggests they were bought by DirecTV.

Yes, they were bought by DirecTV. There was a mad scramble for the subscribers at the time, as DISHNetwork competed for the customers with a special first-time subscriber program. Direct countered with their own program.

The mid-sized Primestar dish became obsolete; they may still be operational using Direct’s satellite internet access.
