My SO has a 1970 VW squareback. Her mechanic says he will restore it and sell it and give her a percentage of the profit. He says it should be worth some pretty good money as it’s a classic.
I did a quick Google and didn’t really come up with any prices, but I’m not an expert phraser of queries.
Anyway, I’m just looking for ball park prices, if anyone has that information or knows how to search for it.
(I have a 1972 Dodge long-body 318 van. I wonder if that might be worth anything if restored).
Squarebacks and fastbacks aren’t generally considered collectible.
A fully restored model, according to this site, for example, suggests a value of $2500 - $7500.
The collectability of a car tends to revolve around performance or appearance. There is a certain kickyness to a 70 squareback that harkens back to the days of flower children. The downside of it’s appeal is the utilitarian nature of the vehicle. At some monetary point, a buyer will choose a nastalgia car like a Mini-Cooper (with all the bells and whistles) rather than invest in the headache of maintaining a classic.
I would add that restoring a vehicle is usually very expensive.
