what's a wonderwall?

Oasis had a song on the radio a few years ago that got played about a zillion times that had a chorus that ended “you’re my wonderwall”

Back in the 70’s George Harrison had an obscure solo album called “Wonderwall Music”.

What is a wonderwall?

“Wonderwall” was a British film made in the late 60s which was basically about a guy who spied on this woman in the apartment next to him through a hole in the wall. It was somewhat “experimental”, as befitted the times, and he would fantasize/hallucinate things while watching her. George Harrison scored the soundtrack. As far as Oasis goes, I suppose the song could be loosely related to the film, but more likely they just liked the Beatles connection.

Oasis makes several references to the Beatles in their music. They’re obsessed! Obsessed I tell ya!

According to Noel Gallagher (various interviews) in writing the song he took ‘Wonderwall’ from George Harrison because he just thought it sounded right and fitted the song. He wasn’t aware what, if anything, it meant and didn’t care either.

The Wonderwall was the set for the final big-prize round on the short-lived CBS game show “Winning Lines” (1999-2000). It showed the list of possible answers for the trivia questions, along with a bunch of red herrings.

On MTV news a few years back, Noel and Liam said that their “wonderwall” was an actually wall in their room when they were growing up, that they were allowed to do murals on. They may have taken the name from another source when they were little, but they did claim it was a real wall.
