What's behind Door #2?

Or, rather, what’s on Second Floor #2?

Let me explain. My college building has eleven floors. Twelve, if you count the basement. Thirteen if you add the second second floor with the mysterious locked door.

There is no rhyme or reason to this second second floor. It’s simply there, between regular old Floor 2, and Floor 3. The sign on the stairwell door simply labels it as “2M”. And the door is always locked.

I have no idea what they think they’re hiding in there. A disco hall? A fairy kingdom full of unicorns? A functional nuclear reactor? A live whale? Maybe it’s a torture chamber for students who miss class once too often. Maybe it’s a private locker room where the aliens take off their human suits.

Perhaps it leads into another dimension, the original homeworld of the creature known as the College Professor. No, wait, I have it- you know those black holes that didn’t show up at CERN? That’s where they went.

Your guess is as good as mine. What do They (it’s always a Them) have hidden in the surplus story?

wow, I dunno ‘bout you young whippersnappers, but back in my day, college students had this little tradition of , you know,… pranks and stuff.Like investigating secret passageways.
Sounds like you got some work to do…
So grease back your hair, head on down to the malt shop, grab a few of your fraternity brothers, hop into your 57 Chevy, and get goin’…

(My guess is that 2M is the mezzanine floor, now used to store janitor supplies. Oh, and alien spaceships, too.)

Sounds like a building where my husband went to college where lots of cutting edge research went on. It was the 9th floor and to our knowledge, there was 1 door (but no handle/lock on the stairwell side) and it wasn’t accessible by elevator either. There were no windows, but it clearly did not exit onto the roof.

Of course we all speculated the same things you did - another dimension, Scully and Mulder’s office, the holodeck…etc.

/cue Xfiles music!

This is why I learned how to pick locks with improvised materials, you should do the same.

I think it’s DEFINITELY the mezzanine, the probably use it as a giant supply closet.

The building in which I currently work (biological research) has a mysterious level, called simply “T”, between the 2nd and 3rd floor. It is accessible from only one of the 6 elevators and requires key access to even get the elevator to stop there.

A couple of months after I got here I was lucky enough to be in the Special Elevator when it stopped at Special Secret Floor T. It turns out that it’s where the HVAC lives and where the maintenance people have their lockers. Very disappointing.

It’s probably a mechanical floor, where they put the heating plant and air filters and water tanks and whatnot.

Of course, secret faster-than-light spacecraft are also ‘mechanical’…

Mystery solved!

I was walking down the stairs just now, and the door was wide open. Naturally, I let myself in.

It’s a library.

Specifally, it’s the library wing that has a normal entrance near the student lounge. I don’t know why they need a permanantly locked door that no one uses. I don’t know why the need a whole extra floor. But there it is.

I would have never in a million years guessed…

So that’s what they told you to say?

It’s the library where they keep the plans to the faster-than-light spacecraft, of course.

The door was put there in order to prompt this thread.

Or so it appears. That’s only the hologram to throw you off the trail - I mean really, what college student is going to enter a library if they don’t have to? It’s really the control center where all brain activity on campus is monitored to alert administrators to any potential plotting of rebellion.

Did anyone notice if John Malkovich acted strangely today?
