Hi all,
I’ve heard that sometimes there is no full-stop put after the middle initials of Ulysses H Grant, Harry S Truman & David O Selznick as they aren’t actually initials, and that they actually don’t mean anything! How far is this true? For all three???

Only for Harry Trumam. It’s Ulysses Simpson Grant and David Oliver Selznick.

There’s some dispute about whether it was actually “Ulysses Simpson Grant,” or not. He was born Hiram Ulysses Grant and there is evidence he preferred Ulysses Hiram Grant, but it is accepted practise that by the time he graduated from West Point, his official name had become Ulysses Simpson Grant and he was too shy to make people put it his way.
