That the one where Duffman showed up to torment Barney?
That’s the one. And it’s still in syndication. I’ve seen it as recent at two months ago in syndication. It never got pulled. One of their best episodes.
diku is right. The episode still airs. As I recall, it was removed from the repeat schedule for a while following 9/11, but it has definitely aired – with WTC references intact. I too have seen it.
In one episode, I think it’s the one that’s the story of how Lisa got her saxophone, Lisa counts the number of pickled eggs and cockroaches in the jar. Can’t remember how many were in there though.
It was also the lure of Free Pickled eggs all night that lured Aerosmith onto the stage in the “Flaming Moe” episode.
Lisa:“There’s 8 pickled Eggs…and one cockroach”.
Moe: “Hiya Sweetie…What are you? The Health Inspector?”
Man at Bar: “No, but I am”.
Curse my metal fingers, I wasn’t fast enough.
Anyway, the Simpsons writers originally wrote “Free beer” as the lure, but this episode was in Aerosmith’s gung-ho sober days, so they wanted the line changed.
Bah-- Pickled eggs are for lightweights. Rollmops are real barfare.
Raw herring wrapped around bits of cucumber or beet, held in place with a toothpick, and steeped in brine with onion and seasonings.
Puts hair on your chest.
This far in and nobody’s mentioned pickled pig’s feet? Available in any Southern retail establishment worth its concrete floor? Keeps forever? No?
Fine, then. I’ve even seen people eat them. With toenails!
<slightly ot>
My father and I watched that episode together and it will forever remain as my favorite episode ever - but mainly because of my father’s comment at the end of the show.
CrazyDad: You know, I would have bet you 10 dollars that they were gonna compromise and call it the Flaming HoMoe.

No, no - rollmops and pickled eggs. Plus beer, of course. That’s the ticket!
Snooopy, I’m just amazed that you’d not heard of pickled eggs.
The best use of Moe’s jar of eggs was in the episode where Frank Grimes Jr. is trying to kill Homer - he shoots at Homer at the bar and misses, hitting the jar of eggs. Moe runs over and says “I should’ve taken more pictures!” Pan to a collage of photos behind the bar - a studio shot of Moe and the jar; four “silly photo booth” shots, and a shot of Moe and the jar at the beach. All while “Memories” plays in the background.
There was a bar in St. Louis that had the pickled egg jar. Our friends and I invented a shot - the “Mexican Chicken.” A shot of well tequila, chased by a hard-boiled egg. Pollo-licious.
<Simpsons nerd mode> Before he stopped drinking, pickled eggs and peanuts were the only thing Barney ate. </snm>
And let’s not forget that homer used the trusty jar to preserve his thumb after marge chopped it off.
… Man, they’ve had some good times with that jar…
I vaguely remember something involving Maggie and the jar, although I’m not at all sure…
Don’t forget Moe himself ended up in the jar on one occasion-one of the Halloween eps, I bet, I just can’t remember which one.
I ate many a pickled egg in my bar-hopping days. Some bars also had pickled sausages. Also I will have you know that the combination of cheap draught beer and pickled eggs produces the most lethal farts known to man.
If memory serves me right, there was an episode wherein the jar was broken. Moe looks at the remaining shards mournfully and says, “Aw man, now I wish I’d taken more pictures.” He then pulls out a photo album containing pictures of him posing with the jar, him and the jar at the beach, etc.
Which episode was this?
I believe there was a pickled ear jar in Gangs of New York. Hell-Cat Maggie came into the bar and tossed one in a jar. Then got a mug of grog from the barkeep. Nice!
Anyhoo…
Damn, didn’t see Dooku’s post. My apologies.
