What's in Your Hoard?

CDs are so small I didn’t consider them. I have about 480. The jewel cases are gone.

The LPs I donated before my last move. Heavy and awkward, I’m glad I don’t ever have to deal with them again.

Word. No jewel cases for my CDs, either. They’re all in plastic sleeves in a cardboard box. I have the jewel case liners in a folder thingy made for them. Probably 500 or more of the damn things.

Up until recently I had about a thousand CDs out out of their jewel cases stored in looseleaf CD sleeves for 3-ring binders with each CD filed with its booklet / liner notes. Lots and LOTS of mongo-sized 3-ring binders. Multiple shelf-feet.

A few months ago I took my entire pile of CDs and fed them into my PC / cloud storage. Pitched 100% of the physical artifacts. I feel a LOT better.

Try it; the spring in your step will be liberating.

I found the picture of my hoard of dice. (And if I’m lucky, I figured out how to post the picture…) Of course that picture is over a year old, so there are several more sets that have joined these.

My dice hoard

ETA: Apparently not. Grrrr. But at least it’s the link to the picture.

My wife and I are both quilters. We have enough fabric stored in totes to gift wrap our house.

Books.
Yarn. Books about yarn. : )
Notebooks and paperwork.
I’ve got somewhat of a collection of candles and incense as well.

I know you’re showing off your dice, but the fabric is beautiful!

And if you put the link on a separate line, it’ll show in the post.

Books in my den. I inherited most of my father’s books, who inherited all of his father’s books, and I’ve added many books to the collection. I don’t throw books out. Hey, you never know when you may need a Funk and Wagnall from 1912.

Clothes in my bedroom closet. I still have clothes from the 70s in my closet, including a powder blue leisure suit. I don’t throw clothes out. Hey, you never know when vintage items may come back into fashion…and I may lose 50 lbs.

Gadgets in my kitchen drawers. Even broken gadgets. I don’t throw gadgets out. Hey, you never know when I may get in a fixing-mood…and in need of a salad shooter.

Corpses in my basement crawlspace. I don’t throw dead bodies out. Hey, you never know when… *

*j/k :innocent:

Anyone need an Altair? Worked, the last time it got booted.

I suspect we’ve got about that many - certainly can’t fit any more in, on or against the three floor-to-ceiling bookcases, or either of the small ones.

That’s what the overflowing baskets and corners of rooms are for - piles of books.

Other than 11 guitars, which I’m working to unload, I don’t hoard. I got rid all but a couple hardcover boxes of my 3000 books several years ago. I have a couple sets of sheets and towels, everything in the kitchen is something I use. Trying to think of what else I don’t hoard, but I’m not sure what all I don’t have that someone might. It stresses me to own things, maybe I’m a reverse hoarder, though I’m not compulsive about it, it just gives me a rush to cast things off.

I think we must be related. I’m a sucker for pretty yarn, cool needles (primarily knitting) and office supplies. I’m an office supply snob and don’t understand people who just pick up any random notebook & pen. It boggles the mind.

I’m mildly into prepping so I have an actual hoard of SHTF/ TEOTWAWKI supplies which I probably will never use. Probably the most extreme of which is twenty-four five gallon bottles of water (I got a deal on ‘all you can haul away for twenty dollars’). I rotate the water by emptying a bottle a week into the toilet tank and refilling.

I just can’t, no matter how desperately I’d love it.

Just in case one’s hoard is bringing them down. Or they need to make room for more stuff there’s help!

I got rid of a lot of things that I had too many of when we moved last year. The one thing that I just couldn’t face wading through however was electric trains. I have boxes and boxes of train engines, train cars, and building kits. The engines and cars aren’t worth much, with a few exceptions, but some of the building kits are, especially discontinued items. Of course the engines and cars are what I want to pare down sometime soon. I just couldn’t take the time while we were preparing to move.

We’ve got loads of spare parts for it if you need them! Mr. Legend worked for MITS in the mid-70’s, and he was on the team that designed the first sound board for the 8800b.

So HE has a hoard of electronics parts and manuals; our daughter has fabric and craft supplies; I have yarn and knitting/crocheting supplies; and we all have books. So many books.

I tend to can when I get stressed so naturally I’ve been doing a lot of that during the pandemic. This is a part of my output. There’s a few more shelves full since I took that. I do use them and family benefits as well.

whats wrong with you people??? (shakes fist) …

I do have more woolen sweaters than I care to admit … BUT (in my defense) I live in a climate where I rarely get to use them …

yes, I can relate
