For me it’s shoes and clothes. I grew up lower middle class and we got two pairs of shoes a year - a “school” pair and a pair of tennis shoes. I also had to wear a lot of hand-me-downs from my cousin. Now that I can indulge myself, I do. I’ve realized it’s gotten somewhat out of hand and I need to stop buying stuff. I have shoes I haven’t even worn.
Land. We’ve got about half an acre (as well as our regular garden) that we do nothing with except mow on a regular basis.
I’m thinking about planting some wild flowers (to attract bees, butterflies etc) and just letting a good chunk of it go wild.
Also, cars. At the moment I have four, two of them aren’t even running.
I have too many pots and pans. I never really discard them, and they’ve had a way of piling up. I have a kitchen cabinet that I don’t even open, beause I know that it’s just full of old pots and pans that I’m not going to use.
Yup, books. At least five 5-shelf bookcases full, some doubled up. LPs: several boxes full: jazz, rock, classical. I just sold a box of old 45 rpm records in mint condition. Mostly jazz, but some other stuff. Bought it for $35 at an estate sale, sold for $100. Paper: fucking hell, the paper you accumulate is just astounding. And it just sits in boxes in the basement.
books. Books. BOOKS!!! And I want to keep and re-read and re-re-read every last one of 'em. And then I want some more BOOKS !!!
The majority of my books are now in boxes and have been, since we moved to our new old-crate-of-a-house fully a year ago. I also selectively inherited quite a few more b**ks from my late father, when I had to sort out his possessions last November at Thanksgiving. Talk about pressure!
Trouble is … the house needs extensive rehabbing (including electrical wiring inside the walls and new flooring everywhere) … and WE HAVE NO BOOKCASES to put up next to the walls, which all also need wallpaper stripping & new wallpaper. Et cetera.
But we DO have Goodwill. A fabulous source of CHEAP FASCINATING B**KS !!! :smack::smack::smack:
And, yes, what books I do have “out” are stacked all over the place.
Thats a great idea, at first it might look a bit ratty but if you help it along by adding some native shrubery and possibly a natural pond it will gradually become a thing of some beauty.
