What's inside of Jupiter?

Blame it on me, I started it. But I honestly see no harm in injecting a little humor into an otherwise perfectly serious thread. YMMV. I think one of the charms of the Dope is really difficult incomprehensible things broken down for us plebes with a heavy dose of humor and sarcasm.

You’re pretty clever young man, but it’s Jupiter all the way down.

What about the other gas giants?

Well, I may not know what’s inside Jupiter, but I know what’s inside Uranus.

A great big stick.

No, Saturn, Uranus, and Neptune are NOT inside of Jupiter, they occupy completely different orbits.

What do they teach these kids nowadays?

Thanks for this very interesting link…

Starting from the top down, they’re probably similar, but of course, they don’t go as deep. I don’t think that any of the others are hypothesized to reach the metallic hydrogen stage, but the upper parts are much the same. Uranus and Neptune may well have some significant mineral core, though, given that they’re denser than Saturn.

Mr. Jupiter.

The lucky bastard.

Is that more than exists at the bottom of Mariana’s Trench? Because we’ve been to the bottom of Mariana’s Trench, in 1960, for 20 minutes.

I know two things that are inside Jupiter.

Shoemaker and Levy

Found this article from 1999 discussing the possibility of diamond “hailstones” forming in the atmosphere of Uranus and Neptune. Uranus & Neptune are more likely to have diamonds than Jupiter and Saturn because the concentration of methane is higher (10 to 15 percent versus just “trace” amounts on their bigger neighbors).
