I’m not asking this question in a “I love Jack Chick” kinda way, I just don’t know much about him except that everybody hates him, and that he writes Christian tracts or something. What’s all the hate for? Would someone also give a link to some of his work?
Here’s the link to his stuff. You might be advised to read a number of his tracts and form your own opinions on them.
Oy vey…where to begin? There are plenty of funny parodies, but it’s tough to top the original:
Because he’s evil. More evil than Dracula, more evil than Ayn Rand. I mean evil. Every stroke of his pen highights fear and terror, desperately grasping certainty in pain of doubt.
He went to a different Sunday School than I did. My Jesus, the idea fo Hell would never occur to Him. He’d be shocked if you suggested it.
Two words: DEATH COOKIE!!!
Unintentional comedic GOLDMINE in my book.
You have your own personal Jesus? I wish I had one, he could do my laundry, I frickin’ hate doing laundry, especially sorting the socks.
“My own, personal, Jesus.” Now if only I could remember the name and artist of the song.
Unless you’re a Catholic, Jew, Muslim, Mormon, Jehovah’s Witness, liberal Protestant, woman, homosexual, music listener, believer in the scientific method, fan of Bewitched, or generally a sensible person, there’s really nothing in the Chick tracts that should offend you.
I don’t hate him. He has a one-tract mind and an uneducated, superstitious, primitive and psychopathic view of mankind, is sad, and otherwise harmless, but I don’t hate him.
And he is fun to parody.
Depeche Mode (Chick would hate them too.)
Personally, I think we should all be grateful for Chick’s contribution to the world of religious tracts. Not because the tracts are good themselves – they’re evil, a rare thing that elucidator and I agree on. But some of the best Pit threads on the SDMB have been the ones trashing Chick’s work. Woe be the day when that rich stream of mockage material stops flowing.
Dark Dungeons is still my favorite, though I can’t quite wrap my mind around a D&D game where actual women are interested in playing.
Beyond the fact that he portrays everyone in the world who does not happen to pursue his particular warped variation of Christianity as clearly damned to hell, (a point that is irritating and counterproductive), his worst sin is a persistent habit of simply inventing history to say what he wants it to say, bearing false witness against anyone whom he chooses to condemn.
Were he simply some crackpot with an odd view of Jesus, he would surely be laughed at. When he steps over the line to perpetuate lies about other people and their beliefs, he becomes a hatemonger worthy of no more than contempt.
He and Gish and Hovind are among the leaders of the Nine Commandment Christians. (Robertson would be there, but he ignores a lot more commandments than just one.)
Death cookie?
I will not speak of the offendor by name, his shame is public. Brothers and sisters, we must all be on guard, ever vigilant, so that the urge to make unspeakable puns does not overwhelm us.
I have my own personal Jesus, but he doesn’t do laundry or windows. Come to think of it he doesn’t do much of anything. I always catch him sleeping behind the couch. Whenever I tell him to get to work he gives me lip about how much of a big shot his dad is.
The man is even more evil than I am!
Plus his association with the infamous con artist, the late Alberto Rivera.
Chick is a mastermind. He’s marketed a ‘product’ to a nearly unmarketable demographic. Marketing folks are hard pressed to do what JTC has done, sell things to people that live in shotgun shacks and hovels in the back woods of rural America. Sure, the product he ‘sells’ is evil in the worst way, but you’ve gotta admire his marketing savvy. And BTW, Personal Jesus is Depeche Mode, if I’m not mistaken…
My brother gave me four Jack T. Chick-drawn color comic books, in which the ol’ Chickmeister tells the story of Alberto Rivera as though Rivera were a lone hero crusading against the evil Satan-influenced Catholic Church.
I didn’t know Rivera was a con artist. What kind of conning has he done? (I’m sure Jack Chick’s comic book series isn’t going to tell me.)
