What's something you don't like about your own party's platform?

Uh, what else is there?

Saying nothing means maintaining the status quo, which means continuing the failed war on drugs. Unless the platform has language which changes the law enforcement approach to narcotics, I will continue to disagree with the Democratic party position.

I’m an Independent that leans right. BUt I am pro-choice, so the Reps get it wrong for me there.

And BOTH parties should be more interested in securing our borders.

On the whole, I find Democrats too protectionist and union-oriented.

I’m mostly a Democrat, but I have a lot of things about the Democratic Party that I don’t agree with.

I think the Dems basically distrust the Free Market, and think the Government can make better decisions. 90% of the time, they are wrong.

I thought Welfare reform (in the 90s) was a good idea, but most of my Democratic friends thought it would be a disaster. It’s had a mostly positive effect.

I think portraying abortion as morally neutral is a HUGE mistake. It should be portrayed as a terrible thing, but slightly better than the alternative.

I’ll stop there, but there are some more.

Oh, I’ve just got to add one more.

I hate when the Democrats try to protect people from their own mistakes. This attitude of “you’re too stupid to make decisions for yourself, so we’ll do it for you” - this drives me crazy.

I align myself with the democrats. Like others, the democrats’ position on guns is not great. I’d definitely change that if I could. While the democrats may not be officially gung-ho on the war on drugs, as mentioned, it’s time to stand against it. Some have, but I’d prefer the effort be broader and more explicit. While not part of the party as such, the activities by some democrats over the Hot Coffee Mod debacle really, really bothered me, enough to write my congressman a page and a half letter. Finally, again as others have mentioned, there is this disturbing protectionism and anti-globalization feeling about the party.

So roughly: more freedom to, less freedom from.

This thread is looking around for brains…but:

I looked and the second and third posts pretty much nailed it.

I’m posting from a computer desk with three magazines (gun-type) on it. I wish the Dems would get rid of their anti-gun rhetoric.

My BF has a concealed carry permit, and so does my father. My baby sister used to be in the NRA. I can shoot (though not well), but I was brought up around guns, and I will probably get my concealed carry permit, just to make things easier.

I was born in 1976 and in every election I can remember, I wanted the Democrat to win. I’m a bleeding-heart, raised in the city liberal who knows how to fire the shotgun that’s sitting next to the dresser. And would do it if I had to. But I’d hate myself later.

ETA: My point is that people who use guns wisely will teach others to do so. Those that do not use guns wisely will teach those same skills to their kids. There are way more economic and social reasons why people commit crimes, and the method of doing so is pretty inconsequential.
