What's that in the pot?

I forgot about the tomato paste. Just to bring the taste together and bind the gravy. Oh, and a chopped large carrot.

As you can probably tell, I didn’t plan it much. It just turned out that way.

Beef stew–cubed chuck, potatoes, carrots, those little round onions, beef broth, worcestershire, a couple spoonfuls of “Montreal Steak Seasoning,” thickened with flour and broth shaken together in a little jar before adding to the pot. Taste for s & p. Hey, it’s how my mom made it, and it’s how I make it.

I will drop dumplings (biscuit dough, basically, but with veg oil instead of solid shortening) onto the simmering surface and cover tightly for 20 minutes before serving. Big dumpling in the bowl, stew spooned over it = comfort food for a football Sunday evening.

Oh, and that smell coming from my oven? Harvest Apple Cake which I will frost with cream cheese icing.

My dinner sounds almost as good as what Lobsang is cooking!

Chicken. Roasting with a lemon and 4 garlic cloves inside and rosemary, olive oil, chopped garlic, salt and pepper outside.

The pork turned out OK. It just fell apart. I only put three carrots in the pot, and I ate all of them. Still have potatoes, pork, and the gravy. I left the onions and mushrooms in the pot, so they’re part of the gravy now.

Vegetable soup. Well, for now, vegetable broth with onion, garlic, celery, carrots, parsnips, radishes and pepper. Then I’ll add more carrots and parsnips, and turnips, zucchini, red peppers and I think orzo for this batch.

YEEEEHAWWWW!

Yup. “Nucular Chicken” still works. It’s the first time in 3 days my sinuses have been clear. I can breathe through my nose again!

I’m still sweating.

I am now, however, out of Kleenex.

The *other *other white meat

I fixed a pot of lentil soup today… mmmm was it heavenly. Easy, too:

1 lb bag of lentils
1 lb ham chunks
4-5 potatoes, peeled & cubed
4 ribs of celery, chopoped coarsely
1 lg onion, chopped coarsely
1 cup quick barley

Dump in the pot together, fill with hot water, salt & pepper to taste. Bring to a rapid boil, then cut back to simmer. Stir occasionally till thick and everything is cooked. Eat. Yum.

I made calico beans, with ham and smoked ham hocks. Calico beans are all the little odds and ends of various dried beans that I have left over, put in a pot and cooked in chicken stock. I put in some diced ham steak because ham hocks are delicious, and add a lot of gelatin to the stock, but they don’t have much actual meat on them. I put in diced onion, celery, and garlic, and when everything was done, I added a can of diced tomatoes. Yes, I made cornbread. It was all wonderful, and I’ve frozen the single serving that’s left.

Three bean and hamburger soup. Tasted better than it sounds. Fed two adults and four teenagers. Just a little in the bottom of the pot left.

Twigs and seeds.

I made chicken noodle soup today. It simmered from about nine am until six pm. It was delicious

Yesterday from 4 to 7 - Goat Curry! It was delish!

It’s not in the pot yet, but tonight there will be chicken thighs (chopped into small-ish pieces), garlic, onion, red pepper, carrots, celery, salt and pepper, and lots of paprika. Just before serving, there will be some fromage frais stirred in as well. And the whole lot will be served with baked potatoes, brocolli and French beans.

Pasta Fazool.

Sweet italian sausage, cannellini beans, kidney beans, italian green beans, green pepper, celery, mushrooms, diced tomato, chicken stock and radiatore pasta.

Like this?

Um, if by “pot” you mean “microwave,” then mine is yesterday’s leftover breakfast scrambled eggs with ham and hash browns, on a flour tortilla, with cheese & hot sauce added. That’s tonight dinner. Yum.
