What's the answer, transgendered students in high school gym dressing rooms.

IIRC, South Park recently ran a surprisingly progressive episode revolving around transgender issues which came to the conclusion that there should be a separate bathroom/changing room for the weird minority of people *who have a problem with *transgender people using whatever room they want. So, careful - you’re entering sub-South Park levels of intellect.

My two cents: let the girl use the locker room she chooses; I predict that the cis-girls, once they see that the trans-girl is not some horrific monster but rather an ordinary teenager like them, will hopefully be more comfortable. If not, they (meaning the cis-girls) can use stalls or ask for further accommodation. There are piles of historical evidence which show that integration leads to acceptance. Whatever brief awkwardness there is changing with someone biologically not the same sex as you doesn’t really compare to the experience of being trans in high school.

Yep, but no one is required to be “typical” now, are they?

A woman doesn’t have to look feminine. A woman is a woman, regardless of what underclothes she wears. If a woman has facial hair, she is still herself, a woman.

Putting on a wig doesn’t make you a woman, nor does taking it off keep you from being one. A woman can have any hairstyle or no hair at all.

What makes one a girl/woman? Not the ability to bear children–obviously infertile women are still women. Not one’s DNA or vagina or breasts–how gauche to claim so!

What makes one a woman is a “feeling” one has (though many of us women don’t have such a “feeling”–what are we? Are we men? But what if we don’t have that feeling either, are we nothing?). If you felt like a man yesterday, you were one and if you feel like a woman today, then a woman you are, and everyone else better recognize this and behave accordingly.

I watched the video. Based on that, put me in the unconvinced column. That is NOT a skirt pleat at all. She oughta tape that down.

Has she started any hormone treatments? That wasn’t mentioned in the video.

As well it shouldn’t have been, since that is private medical information.

Why should a girl have to tape down her penis? What a girl does with her penis is her own business, no?

If she wants to be accepted as a girl, perhaps she should make some of the obvious choices, like underwear, that don’t scream “Look, I’ve got a penis” to the world. It’s not like anyone is suggesting anything unreasonable here. Just stop going commando.

I think madsircool nailed it.

The other girls don’t have to wear underwear, so why should this one? A girl’s choice of underwear is not what makes her a girl. She’s just a girl waving her penis around–deal with it, haters!

Personally, I have a problem with it, but girls in school are expected to wear appropriate underwear under most schools dress codes. What is appropriate is left up to the administration and can vary depending on the body type of the girl. A girl without much breast tissue, might be able to get by with no bra or a sports bra, where a girl with lots of chest might be expected to wear someone with significant straps and underwires to provide appropriate support - or even minimization. A girl wearing high waisted pants can wear a thong, a girl wearing low riders had better wear bikini briefs or hipsters or low riding boy shorts. Girls can be sent home for exposing panty lines.

So yes, although I don’t agree with it, if she expects to get treated like a girl, the school can question what type of underwear she wears and send her home if it is, in the school’s judgement, too revealing or inappropriate.

Welcome to being a girl, where the usually male school administration has the power to send you home over your choice in underwear.

I’m kind of impressed that the kid is keeping a straight face through this interview. I’m guessing that everyone cracked up about ten seconds after the camera was turned off.

She’s some kind of bigot plant, right? Has to be.

Yeah, and her “waiving her penis” as you call it is really going to help her cause, right?

Be that as it may, we have no reason to believe that the school has addressed the issue of this student’s undergarments or lack thereof or any knowledge of this school’s dress codes. The administration seems to have bent over backwards to accommodate. It’s many of the other students and their parents that object to the student using the girls’ facilities, not the school administration.

She’s done anything but waive it, and I’m sure her behavior and attire are furthering her cause effectively.

Her actual cause may not be what people are assuming it is.

Cosmetology?
This person plans to go to “college” and study cosmetology???

Hence there is no “right side of history”. There’s only “preferred outcomes” and conflating them with some axiomatic truth about history is wrong, arrogant, and a simple way to declare oneself a winner.

That’s correct. There is no right side of history. The Nazis are always within striking distance of victory.

Yes, that would explain why we’ve been talking about it for 190 posts…

If a high school kid is so enamored with boobs that he is willing to dress like a girl to see them then he deserves to see them damn it!

Really? The people who fought for civil rights for black people weren’t on the right side of history?

I can’t believe those of you chastising this poor girl for not being “trangendered enough” for you. Bunch of bigots, all of you!
