Wow. Sort of makes Gay Head look like crap, huh?
I have to first say that the best snorkling/diving beachs that I’ve been too are in Grand Cayman. It’s also got the second best sand.
The absolute best beach I’ve ever been too was a beach in Cozumel. We took the mayan (?) city tour and behind one of the Mayan (Aztec?) buildings was this little beach. The sand was soft and not hot. The visibility was amazing.
Because it would win in almost every category. Except for snack bar. $5 for a hot dog, $10 for a burger?
She wasn’t the finest beauty on the beach, just the one who happened to get in the way of my photo. The Best Butt award goes to the Czech lifeguard at Inkwell Beach, on the other side of the island.
Two pictures of my favourite beach. It’s about a mile walk from where I lived in Australia, and it’s mostly ued by the locals: hardly any tourists ever find it. And notice how crowded it is in the second picture, on a sunny day in the first month of summer.
Aitutaki in the Cook Islands is hard to beat.
White sand, turquoise sea, cobalt sky
Lots of tiny “desert islands” for those Robinson Crusoe moments
Ridiculously over-the-top sunsets.
NB I’m not sure if the above links will allow hotlinking the images. If not go here and click to “Cook Islands” then click forward 8 or 9 images.
The links worked for me: I especially liked your sunset picture!
Oh. and the best bioluminescent bay (and only one I have found so far) is Malo Jezero on Mljet island in Croatia.
Last Thurday night, under a clear starry sky, I proposed to my girlfriend as we swam in the bay at the bottom centre of that photo.
I don’t know the exact location, and I don’t know the name, and it was a long while ago, but I know it’s in the Florida Keys (in Islamorada?) and it’s perfect. flailing hands
Seconded. Not to insult the young lady (who I’m sure is pretty), but that tankini wouldn’t make the list of things I’d remember long after the summer is over. I’ve seen more amazing bikinis during an average day on LI’s north shore. In September.
Truly, the photo doesn’t do her justice.
I also think there such a thing a sun narcosis. I don’t take a camera to the beach very often – I don’t like the voyeur vibe - but I’ve snapped photos of girls I thought were achingly beautiful at the time, only to pull up the photo later and think, “meh.”
There’s a place called “Banana Bay” on Grand Bahama. It’s the most beautiful beach I’ve ever seen. It’s got white sand and the water is crystal clear. But the main thing I liked was that the water was so shallow. You could walk out in the water at least 100 yards without getting your knees wet.
Probably Bahia Honda. There aren’t actually that many good beaches in the Keys.
I found a pretty good one in Key West. But my ankles kept getting pummelled with golf ball-sized chunks of coral.
Funny story: I was there with my GF on December 27th. We’re from Boston. The sign on the attendant’s booth said the water temperature was 75. “Wow, 75!”, I said. “Yeah”, replied the attendant. “So you can’t go in the water!”
Florida wimps.
The Crane Beach in Barbados, though it’s better for surfing than snorkelling. Pink sand is pretty. Sigh…
The hidden red sand beach in Hana, Maui. Lots of black sand beaches there, too, but the red sand beach is exquisite.
Not to argue with anyone else, but the Redneck Riviera as understood by those of us who live in these parts runs from Panama City, Florida, west through Gulf Shores, Alabama.
And a mighty fine strip of beaches and bars it is, IMHO.
It’s even got a cool concrete sunken ship from WWI.
Except garygnu’s right. It doesn’t hold a candle to Canon Beach.
