What's the best way to move a chair from Dallas, TX to Canton, OH?

It’s a hanging chair that was never used since apartment managers said “No” to hanging it–a gift from son so I love it, and I can keep it in the family if I can get it to Ohio.

Weight - 120 lbs
Height - 44"
Width - 30"
Depth - 17"

DHL, UPS, & FedEx give estimates of $160-ish.

I suppose someone’s back seat would be out of the question, but is there another way that might not cost quite so much?

Hmmmm, if you visit the family member in Ohio, perhaps you could borrow a pickup truck for the trip? There’s lots of pickups in the Metroplex.

Contact moving companies. Some companies will move a single piece of furniture by combining it with another load that is going the same way. The catch is you have to wait until there is room in a truck going to Canton. However, the prices are generally pretty reasonable.

If you don’t mind driving yourself you can call Uhaul and ask them if they have any trucks that need to be driven to Ohio.

THAT part would be free the only problem is getting yourself back.

What’s a hanging chair?

Sounds kind of morbid when you phrase it like that.
It’s a chair shaped kind of like a basket that hangs from the ceiling.

My suggestion would be to throw the chair away and purchase a new one when you get there. Although possibly more expensive, it is invariably easier on the back.

I’m in the middle of moving house for the second time in a month, however, so my opinion is not exactly unbiased.

Strap helium balloons to it, take a BB gun, sit down and float between Dallas and Canton

I think, but can’t be sure, that greyhound (yes the bus company) will ship things for you. It’s not quick, but oftentimes for larger items, it’s cheap.

Name the chair “Tom Landry” or “Robert Staubach”.
Buh-dum-cssh!

Way to eff up a joke, Hal. :smack: “Roger”, of course.

What good ideas, and some of them exceedingly inventive!

I hadn’t thought of moving companies or Greyhound. Thanks bunches.
