I recently got back from a professional conference in Los Angeles and was stunned by how cheap airfare is on Southwest to Los Angels ($ 220 round trip).
I had a brief time window during the conference to visit the Getty and was seriously considering trying to take in more of LA with my kids at some point in the near future. My hotel room was $ 350 a night, even at conference rates, so I’m looking so something a bit more economical this go round, suitable for 3 people for say, a week or so. What are the best options for cheap, short term residence accomodations in LA?
My husband and I found an absolutely stunning Victorian apt. on the corner of Haight & Ashbury in SF for $125/night using that site. We spent a week there in November. Looks like they have listings all over, including the L.A. area.
What area of L.A. do you want to see? You have to remember, the Greater Los Angeles Metropolitan Area is larger than some European nations (only mild hyperbole) so you probably want to focus in on a particular region and/or set of activities rather than trying to see it all at once.
If you stay out in the Inland Empire (locals refer to it as the “eye-eee” or the “nine-oh-nine”) you can find good hotels for much lower rates. You’ll be driving more, of course (and assuming your driving during normal “rush” hours, with traffic going into downtown) so factor that in. If you were adventurous you could take the Metrolink into downtown and other rail lines or taxis from there, but I wouldn’t try that with young children in tow.
Let us know what you decide and how it works out for you.
