I need to ship many wedding gifts and some of my wife’s personal possesions from California to Detroit. We’re in no rush to get things to Michigan and don’t care if it takes a long time. Cheapness is the main goal.
What do you think the best way to do this is? I can’t say exactly how much stuff there is yet, but it’s a pretty big amount of stuff.
Second the Greyhound suggestion. I moved from Ontario to BC, and BC to Ontario using their services. Sent something like 7-8 boxes for cheap (can’t remember the exact dollar amount, sorry).
Another vote for Greyhound, but you might need to check whether they have a size or weight limit.
(For speed, ship it NorthWest Orient Airlines to Seattle, then go pick it up when it stops at Detroit.)
I realize it doesn’t cover most of your stuff, but when moved across country to Utah I shipped all my books book rate through the mail. Cheapest way to do it. As a added bonus, I could ship it to myself at General DElivery, and they held it at the POst Office. This amounts to free storage for a limited time.
There’s obvious differences, but at least it’s not a dissimilar distance - I know of one person who found the cheapest way to get his stuff from England to Philadelphia was paying for a 20-ton container, filling it, waiting two weeks, and emptying it at whichever godforsaken port it arrived into.
Greyhound. I had to mail a large package for an ebay auction. It would have cost near $100 to send it via USPS, it was only $30 for Greyhound. They have details on their website.
