I ask because my sister-in-law is looking for a new gaming computer. She has a hard budget of $600 for everything. I’d build her a mid-range desktop but she also needs a laptop that she can take to school to write papers.
I haven’t bought a laptop in years so I’m a bit out of the loop. Luckily she isn’t trying to play the new Assassin’s Creed or anything. She just wants to play WoW and Rift (I’ve never heard of the latter).

Anyway, the upshot is: You can’t get much of a gaming laptop for $600. You can get something that will run most modern games on pretty firmly reduced settings.
