What's the deal with month/day/year?

Except in China, they go year/month/day, oftentimes with characters intermixed denoting which is which.

(today’s date in Chinese, for those of you in the audience who can read Eastern Language characters)

2008年07月25日

Which would of course make the next 8th come out as:

2008年8月8日

You’ll note one of my favorite features of the Chinese language: Arabic numerals. It seems they have found that our numbers are far easier to write than theirs are.

Thailand generally uses day/month/year, but not infrequently month/day/year is encountered, especially on computer systems, so you have to pay attention. Best to write out the month instead of using a numeral whenever possible, in order to avoid confusion.
