What's the Deal with the Iron Chef parody on The Soup?

Every week on The Soup there’s a clip of a guy doing a parody of Iron Chef revealing a “Secret Ingredient.” Is there a backstory to that? If not for the fact that it happens every week it would be completely random.

Since I don’t watch Iron Chef I thought it was a real clip. “Pizza DOUGH!” cracks my shit up every time.

That was real. They did pizza dough as an ingredient a couple of weeks ago.

but that guy on The Soup…is he the “real” Iron Chef?
I don’t watch Iron Chef either.

Couldn’t tell you, because I don’t watch The Soup that often.

These are (as far as I can tell) real clips from Iron Chef America. The joke just appears to be that the host appears to attempting to be acting as overenthusiastic as possible, perhaps in an attempt to imitate Chairman Kaga from the original Japanese version of the show.

That helps a lot. I can’t believe that’s the actual show.

Nice.

They are real clips from Iron Chef America. The pizza dough episode was from a couple of weeks ago. The week after the secret ingredient was hamburger.

Also, the chairman of the american version is the nephew of Chairman Kaga. In the opening credits, he holds a yellow pepper a la Kaga, but then wusses out and bites an apple. He only yells the ingredient occasionally, but the pizza dough bit cracked me up as well.

This week’s was…Chicken! Ooooo, what can you make from that? The challenge of it all!

The thing about that clip is that they show on of the contestants, Mario Batali. Mario is an italian chef from the Food Network. After the secret ingredient is revealed, you hear him say, “Sweet!” I think that’s supposed to be the funny part.
