I got this camera on ebay, specifically because I had one just like it and was very pleased with the good picture quality. (It’s an Olympus Camedia D-340R.) With my original camera, basically ALL the pics were nice and sharp, whether I was very close to my subject or further away.
Now, this camera seems to take fuzzy pictures. A bit fuzzy on close-ups, and pretty darn fuzzy from more than a few inches away. I’ve played around with it a bit and haven’t seen any changes in quality.
Is it the camera? On closer examination, this one says 1.3 megapixel on the front, whereas my first camera doesn’t have any designation.
I do NOT need a camera that takes unclear pictures. sigh
Take it back. a megapixel as low as 1.3 should still give you sharp(ish) pictures. The megapixel number usually translates as smaller pictures.
Or, check that digital zoom is off. digital zoom is a complete waste of time as it just stretches the data rather than actually zooming. the software on your computer can do that a lot better. optical zoom is fine though.
1.3 megapixels is at the edge of acceptable picture quality. You should be able to get OK to good pics but truly “sharp” pics are going to be a stretch and you really need a 2 megapixel + camera to get into this territory.
Having said this I have owned a 340 and the camera pics should not be “fuzzy”. The 340 has a variety of settings. Make sure resolution is maximized and the auto functions are all engaged. The 340 does not do well with low lighting, Make sure your pics are well lit.
Look for a switch on the side that says “Macro” or something of the sort. Set it to off. Maybe that’ll help.
Yeah, I got a camera like that, if you set it to macro then it only takes very close up pictures…
This doesn’t even take good closeup pics.
Since my original post, I have requested a refund, gotten lots of snotty refusals and semi-literate insults, and am now in the midst of a Square Trade negotiation with the intent of actually paying for a mediator if it isn’t resolved soon. It’s the principal of the thing, y’know?
On further comparison, I pulled out my old camera and it is EXACTLY like this one–same model and everything. And that camera took pics that looks almost like a 35mm–very sharp resolution and clean enough to print and frame. So I’m suspicious that this one has been altered, screwed up, badly refurbished, or something like that. These pictures look like the ones I took with a $40 digital from Target once. Grrrrr.
