What's the difference between these 2 versions of "Ziggy Stardust"?

I’m on iTunes looking to buy a copy of the song “Ziggy Stardust.” I see the first, most popular version is from Best of Bowie and is 3:15. Then I see that the version from Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars is 4:14. Can anyone tell me what constitutes the one minute difference between these songs?

Thanks.

The second is a live version.

Thanks, Tapioca Dextrin!

The second one is probably live. Can’t you sample them?

Another question: I have the non-live version as part of the whole album because I fell in love with the song from it’s appearance in Guitar Hero. But there’s a guitar solo in the Guitar Hero version that’s not in the regular, album version. Is there a live version that DOES have this kick-ass solo?

If you can on iTunes, I don’t know how to. You can on Amazon but the samples are very short.

If you double-click on a song title, you get a 30-second sample.

To be more specific, the version on Best of Bowie is taken from the original studio album Ziggy Stardust while the version on Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars (The Motion Picture) is from the 1973 “farewell” concert at the Hammersmith Odeon.

Except the concert version was nearly identical to the album version. So I just went to the iTunes store and clicked on the 4:14 version and it played a sample of “Watch that Man,” a different song from the same concert that did clock in at over 4 minutes.

As far as I know, the extra bit in Guitar Hero was added to make it more challenging and does not represent the way Bowie’s band ever performed it.

All songs in the original Guitar Hero game are cover versions played by a band called WaveGroup Sound.
