The first Roman emperor.
Likewise.
For me, too, I remember him as the character from the HBO series Rome. He was portrayed there as being very smart, for instance figuring out at the age of ten or twelve the reason his uncle Julius Casear might not mind too much that the eagle standard of the thirteen legion is stolen
The month of August is named for him.
Also, “By the way, don’t eat the figs.”
That he has a very nice tower at his hotel.
I think of his war with Marc Anthony, workaholic, lived pretty simply, prone to breakdowns during stressful periods.
Brian Blessed for me too.
The funny thing is that I don’t think of him as Caesar Augustus; he was simply Octavian during the show, until the very end, when he’s crowned Emperor.
He took the month of August, [del]and added a day he took from February.[/del] turns out that’s wrong, but it was my first association.
Brian Blessed for me three.
This. And like others, I don’t know anything else about him.
First thing: That Octavian went to war with Marc Antony and Cleopatra.
The first Emperor of Rome
Can you elaborate? what was the reason?
Brian Blessed is Caesar Augustus.
The first thing I think of is my Dad. His middle name is Augustus.
It boggle my mind that several people only knew about the month of august.
It’s only probably one of history’s most interesting periods, and his and IULIUS’ story might as well have been written by some hollywood script writer. This stuff is pure human drama - action, sex, betrayal.
From the Wikipedia plot summary:
When [Centurion Lucius] Vorenus explains who they are, Octavian shows himself to be more shrewd and devious than either he or [Titus] Pullo. He explains that their mission is only a gesture, since the theft of the eagle is actually a blessing in disguise to Caesar. Civil war between Caesar and Pompey is inevitable, but Caesar needs Pompey to make the first move so as not to appear the aggressor; Pompey is likely to do just that if he believes that Caesar’s soldiers are on the verge of deserting him.
As Octavian says that Caesar would prefer the eagle to remain lost, Vorenus and Pullo discover evidence that Pompey ordered its capture.
As I said, the character is quite young; only about ten or twelve at this point. So it was a sign of his intelligence and cunning.

Brian Blessed for me too.
And me.

I think of his war with Marc Anthony, workaholic, lived pretty simply, prone to breakdowns during stressful periods.
Also a bit of a prude, to judge from some of his policy. Probably Rome’s greatest emperor. (I answered 1st Roman emperor to the poll.)
Also, all this talk of Brian Blessed, whom I barely remember from CLAVDIVS, is making me want to watch it again.
