What's the fleshy bit of tissue that sits about an inch below the front lower teeth?

Press your tongue against your front bottom teeth, and slowly work your way down. Eventually will hit a piece of tissue sticking out from your jaw.

What is it? Saliva gland?

lower labial frenulum?

Last night’s veal parmesan?

An inch below my lower teeth? My chin, maybe, mostly air. How long are your teeth, man?

Heh, I mean, on the inside of your mouth. You’ve got your front teeth on the lower part of the jaw, run your tongue down to just above the floor of your mouth… there’s a fleshy bit of tissue sticking out.

What is it?

It’s the alien’s breathing tube. I’d call Weyland-Yutani, stat.

evilhanz has it, though the more high-falutin’ medical term is “inferior labial frenulum.”

But don’t let anyone tell you that their frenulum is better than yours. Nuh-uh.

Ok, so, what is the purpose of my ‘inferior labial frenulum’?

Boy, how lazy am I when I could just look it up?

According to this link:

http://www.uomhs.edu/anatomy/anatomicalword.htm

The purpose of the inferior labial frenulum is to keep your
lower lip from sagging.

What the?

The piece of tissue I am feeling is sitting on the inside of my jaw, so, I don’t think this is what I am referring to.

I believe he means under the tongue, on the inner side of the bottom teeth, where the saliva glands are.

well the only thing i feel is the extra peice of skin that makes my tounge an inch shorter than everyone elses.

well maybe i should explain that , My tounge is connected to the bottom of my mouth at the very tip where as most peoples tounges are connected by a similar piece of skin only at the back .My father has the same thing .Does anyone else?

It feels like a lump under the skin. Retract your tongue as far as you can, then, while it’s retracted it, press it against the floor of your mouth. Then, while keeping it pressed to the ground, run it as far forward as you can while it still touches the ground. you should come to a ‘wall’. Now that you have hit this ‘wall’, press your tongue against that wall and run it slowly up… THERE! That thing you are feeling right now!

What is it?

It’s your tongue. It’s slack tissue. Put your finger on it and then stick out your tongue as far as it will go. The slack will be gone.

Mine is in two parts, split down the middle along the line between the bottom front teeth. Am I alone in having a two piece <whatever it’s called>?

Speaking of odd things in your mouth, I have a bony growth to either side of the famous “fleshy bit”. Finally at the age of 26 I found out why it hurts like shit when I get dental X-rays taken. My dentist says about 1 in 10 people have it and its genetic, my mother has it on just one side of her mouth. Wish she had mentioned it because everyone has always told me I am a freak when I tell them that the dental x-rays hurt (biting down on the plastic film digs the backing into said boney part). Anyone know what this is and if it means anything special?
