What's the largest US city that's never had a TV show/movie set there?

Cloak and Dagger, starring Henry (ET) Thomas and Dabney Coleman.

PART of the horror sequel ***Revenge of the Creature ***(as in the Creature from the Black Lagoon) was set in Jacksonville, Florida. It starts in St. Augustine, at the old Marineland aquarium.

That’s the best I can do for a movie or TV show in Jacksonville.

For the sake of keeping the criterion clear, let’s restrict it to television shows that fictional television shows that have appeared on a US television channel (ie: no documentaries, reality shows or travelogues) and movies that have seen a domestic theatrical release.

Fair enuf.

Isn’t there a Silicon Valley series now? That would be San Jose, no?

Silicon Valley is set in Palo Alto which would be horrified to be considered part of San Jose.

Nah, most everything seems to revolve around Palo Alto on that show. I don’t remember if Erlich’s house/Pied Piper HQ location has been specified exactly though. But it might very well be Palo Alto. Could as easily be Los Altos, Mountain View, Cupertino. Or San Jose… but probably not San Jose.

As a non-US citizen, Ive been wondering about Jacksonville. I have not heard anything at all about that city. In contrast I hear about the smaller San Francisco / Boston all the time. What’s the deal? Is it just a really boring city?

We, uh, like to make things hard on ourselves by forgetting the obvious. :smack:

As of now, I can’t think of a reason why it would be mentioned in any history books, it’s just a nice, big port city with a large Navy presence, lots of flat land, and in a sunny climate.

I talked about the difference between central cities and metro areas before and Jacksonville is a prime example. In 1967, the city of Jacksonville and its county, Duval, essentially merged, one of only a handful of cities in the country to do so. That instantly inflated the size of the city without changing the size of the metro area.

Metro Jacksonville is 1,394,624, 40th in size. Metro San Francisco is 4,594,060, 11th. Metro Boston is 4,684,299, 10th. (The differences in size, power, recognizability, and overall action are even more pronounced if you look at Consolidated Statistical Areas.) There’s no comparison. Jacksonville is a backwater even in Florida, fourth among Metro areas there. Nationally, it’s similar to other state capitals like Hartford, Connecticut, and Providence, Rhode Island, neither of which get any attention either.

Just to be clear - it isn’t our capital. That would be Tallahassee.

I think Jacksonville is probably best known for its NFL team.

Shoot. I used to know that stuff. :smack:

Well, at least they’ve had TV shows.

No worries. You were spot on with the rest of the description.

Whats been set in Charlotte, NC besides NASCAR and professional wrestling? I know Homeland filmed here but certainly wasn’t set here

Well, Kathy Reich’s “Bones” books are (which surprised me mightily), but the show is set in D.C. I can’t think of any show or movie set in the Queen City.

I think you’re dating yourself. The Drew Carey Show was a lot of years ago. It started before this board was formed.

What movie or TV show was set in OKC?

TNTs Saving Grace.
