often in comedy (either stand-up or sitcoms) they’ll reference a rural, unsophisticated area in the US by miming playing a banjo and singing a short tune (8 - 12 notes at most).
Unfortunately, I can’t even think of the tune anymore, since I went looking for it and found only the dueling banjos scene from Deliverance. (that could be it, but it doesn’t sound quite right).
Could somebody please point me to a video of the original tune these comics are imitating?
It really is Dueling Banjos they are imitating.
Definitely Dueling Banjos
Are you perhaps thinking of Dueling Banjos?
How come nobody mentioned Dueling Banjos?
My first guess is Dueling Banjos
I think it could be Dueling Banjos.
dueling banjos

I’m going to differ and say it might be Dueling Tubas, even though it doesn’t feature banjos.
I’ll be the contrary voice and suggest it’s actually the remix of Dueling Banjos.
If I remember correctly, as seen and heard in Deliverance (and subsequent radio play), the piece features only one banjo, “dueling” with one guitar. Discuss.
Banjos is the boy’s name.
(not really)
Rio
Paddle faster, i hear banjos!
If it’s comedy you’re after, and it’s not Dueling Banjos, is it possibly Hee Haw’s Pickin’ and Grinnin’ or perhaps Cripple Creek?
The sequential postings have been hilarious, sorry I’m not able to keep up with them.
