The first time you saw the liquid metal effects in Terminator II
Heavy Metal (need I say more?)
Final Fantasy - Spirits Within - beautiful animation…too bad the story didn’t make a damn bit of sense
Not sure if this counts, but Who Framed Roger Rabbit? - (it was the first time they managed to have cartoon characters interacting with people <as in pulling on your coat, etc…>) - the live action / animation relationship was groundbreaking in that movie
Toy Story - amazing
Aladdin - the scene where the panther head rises from the sand…
One of the hentai images I’ve been thinking of occurs at the end of Fragile Hearts I. It’s the story of a robot sex slave, and most of it is about as stupid as you might think it is, but there are a few strangely haunting moments. Like a scene where Aki, the titular robot sex slave, is walking down the street to an assignment, and stops to look at a sidewalk display of robotic hands and heads, and the heads are just like her own head. It’s a really disquieting image showing her disposability. She can be replaced, in whole or in part, literally.
There’s also a scene where she stands looking at the sunset after an assignment, still wearing the strap-on tail with its various penetrative devices, and wonders about the meaning of her life. (Which you know because in an earlier seen you’ve seen just how the cat tail is, um, connected to her person.) Very weird.
But the most striking image of her disposability occurs at the end of the hentai, when we see Aki discarded in a warehouse for used androids. In the foreground we see a pile of used androids in a heap, staring blankly I guess because they’ve been turned off, and in the distance we see Aki bent over a crate, getting one last use from the warehouse staff before she too is discarded – a very strong image of mortality. And I guess the reason it was more effective than it might have been was that it and the other scenes occurred in the context of what was otherwise a more or less witless hentai – they kept catching me by surprise.
OK, these were your fave animated films, but what were the striking images in them you really liked, like the melting android in Terminator II that you mentioned?
