What's the most unusual radio format you've ever encountered?

When I started college the college radio station had the same broadcast situation, but during my sophomore year they were able to upgrade their power and licensing and were able to be received throughout the town. This meant an upgrade in the type of music played, which was supplemented by a huge donation to the station library. Part of this included a classical music collection. I had just started as a DJ there, and was the only person on the staff with any knowledge (or interest) in classical music, so by default I not only was tasked with organizing the record collection but became the host of a classical music time slot. I can’t remember when it was aired, but apparently it did generate some feedback because I started getting requests and responses to my on-air commentary.

Here in Chicago, WCPY is Polish language programming until 8pm when it toggles to Dance Factory, an electronic music radio production company.

MeTV-FM, the radio network affiliated with the television broadcaster, plays an hour of yachtrock on Saturday nights.

Not-So-Fun-Fact: I first heard of The 9/11 Attack from this moron as I was driving into work that morning. At first, I didn’t take it seriously given the source, but it quickly became evident from the other On-Air people that shit had definitely hit the fan.

I hated this fool, and now, his voice is forever seared into my brain because of that morning.

Many years ago here in Portland KUFO came on the scene with a mysterious countdown for about a week, followed by a live rock format. They left the air/changed format and call letters a few years back and were forgotten…but a couple of months ago on 102.9 HD2 they started broadcasting that call sign while playing “I Got You Babe” for a day, followed by a day of the Star Wars theme, then mega rock. 102.9 KUFO
