What's the most you've ever paid for a hotel room?

Probably about $150 out of pocket, but since my hotel stops tend to be as part of tour groups or on business, I really can’t remember when. Like what is said above, a $100 room for a night is usually just as good as a $200 room, if all you’re looking for is a decent bed and hot water. Never been much for hotels as vacation destinations; they are there to rest after I do things.

Porbably the nicest hotels I’ve stay at are in Abu Dhabi, but since I was there in the summer (115F), the rates were very low ($90 USD). During the “winter” the rates would have been $400.

Out-of-pocket, around $200 per night. That was for a full condo on the beach in Florida, though, not specifically a hotel. On someone else’s dime, my company sent me on a week long, expense paid vacation at a Four Seasons resort that lists online starting at $600 per night.

I note the OP didn’t state per night so I’ll also throw in the around $600 for 3 nights I paid at the DoubleTree Breckenridge, if you include the expensive meal and the parking. It would undoubtedly been higher if I had stayed during ski season.

Then there’s the time I footed most of the $1000-plus bill for a condo in in the Rockies for a week in exchange for selecting the location of our yearly family vacation. It was completely huge, so huge that I am glad my uncle asked if he could tag along too since otherwise it would have felt too empty for 5 people. 3 levels, each with a balcony, 3 bedrooms, 3 baths, washer/drier, big living room, dining room, kitchen, and large foyer that could double as another bedroom. Not to mention the breathtaking views right into Rocky Mountain National Park from the top balcony.

I “paid” $350 per night for a room at a Marriott for a conference being held there, but I was reimbursed by my employer. I think my wife and I paid ~$300/night for a corner room at the Millennium UN Plaza hotel (in Manhattan) for our honeymoon in 2010.

Somewhere in the $500/$600 range for a night at the Glenmere Mansion in Orange County, NY is probably the most expensive. Birthday present for my girlfriend. Was one of the cheapest rooms there; the suites went for upwards of $2500 a night back then (haven’t looked at prices there in a while). Well worth it (came with butler service!).

Have paid in the $300 range a number of times - I like me a little luxury on the rare occasions when I travel. Most recent one was at the Langham Hotel in Melbourne; also paid around that much in Rome last summer, and $300 a night in NYC is not hard to do.

I used to have to go to a conference annually on Jekyll Island. The first two years, I stayed at the campground because it was only $12 a night. After being robbed blind* the first two years, I finally had enough and paid the $80 a night for two nights the third year. This was back in '97-'99. The rate was half price or better because of the group rate.
*The raccoons stole all my food- the second year, in broad daylight!!!

Something like $330 for a ‘trendy but moderate’ hotel in Manhattan. For perspective, parking was $75 - more than I’m usually willing to pay for the hotel room. Worst night in a hotel in my life. We wouldn’t stay there again if it were free.

Some time ago I was sent to Moscow USSR on a three week data mining trip. I had a reservation made by our travel group at a Marriot hotel close to the office. It was nice enough but did not look any different than other Marriot I had stayed at. After a week or so, I got a call from the front desk telling me that my credit card - a company issued Visa - had been declined. As it turned out the rooms cost $2500 per night and I had maxed out my card :eek:

I made a quick call to the stateside travel group and the upped my limit to and amount that would cover my expenses for the rest of my stay.

No more than $200, and honestly, I’m with the OP. If you want me to pay that much for a hotel room, it better come staffed with fucking Daniel Craig as my personal sex toy/masseuse. What really floors me is the shit places that think they can charge that much. When Foxwoods first opened we snagged a hotel room there for like $120. We went to see Bill Burr there a couple of weekends ago and I got an offer for a “special discounted rate” since I was seeing the show. The “special discounted rate” was SIX HUNDRED AND SIXTY DOLLARS. For your crummy hotel? With nothing else worth it nearby? Fuck, no!

Even when we went to Vegas we stayed in the Bellagio for less than $200 a night. You can find awesome hotel prices if you just care to look. Plus I don’t care about any of the amenities the hotel gives you. I don’t care about the pool, or the gym, or anything - I hardly spend any time in the hotel. I’m on vacation, I’m out almost every moment I can be.

We’ve even found hotels in NYC for under $150 - nice ones, too, not crappy ones. Part of it is not to go on Saturday night, find weekdays if you can, and off season. Part of it is just a little shopping! Don’t take the first available hotel! We particularly like SoHotel, really nice artsy hotel that isn’t too expensive.

Best deal had to have been downtown Toronto, smack in the middle of everything, awesome hotel, for $117 a night. That was an awesome deal we snagged.

When I worked in the oil field, we attended a worldwide conference in Dubai. We stayed at a brand spanking new hotel and had nice, but fairly modest rooms. They were booked through the conference, so I didn’t see the charges until I sat down to do my expense report. It was $660/night.

When I was younger, I’d stay at any old place because I was just there to sleep. But enough filthy and/or dangerous places and once bringing bed bugs home and I don’t do that anymore.

These days I stay at nice hotels because I can afford it and I don’t want to have to worry about anything else while I stay there. $160? Not a problem if I’m staying for several days. Just for a few hours sleep before I keep driving? I’ll keep it closer to $100.
