Situation:
My previous employer reported me as a delinquent account and is on my credit report.
This has been going on for over a year now and just when I think the situation has been respolved, it gets worse!
I opened an account for a previous friend/boss from a temporary part time job I had. I knew him for some time through my primary work and knew his payment history so when he broke up with his gf and she shut off his service I opened an account to help him out. To make a long story short, the user changed the billing address and account to another market and I was under the impression that the change of responsibility went through (I had insisted on the change of resp in order to switch the acct over so I wouldnt have to hassle with babysitting his acct). I found out several months later that the account had remained in my responsibility when my business and other personal lines were interrupted. Needless to say, I promptly paid the past due and shut off his line.
This didnt seem to be good enough for the company, though. They reported the account as a write off and stuck it on my credit report while I was still employed with them. I spoke with a rep in the department that handles these situations and the rep verified the bill was paid and did not go to collections. She CC’d me on the email she sent up to have the information pulled, indicating their error. I thought that took care of it.
WRONG
I’ve made several calls, all verifying the info and all promising to clear this up. I’ve even disputed the info with the CB’s only to have the company come back “verifying the information reported is correct. Acct written off as of 08/2008” (or at least this was the last response). So, I have the corporate office telling me it was their mistake but instead of correcting it, they put their “verified” stamp and leave it alone.
WT double F?
Is this a form of harrassment because I did not leave on the best of terms with them?
Or is this just sheer stupidity on their end and cough mine for giving them the benefit of the doubt and falling for their “get it right or make it right” slogan? Hell, even my attempts to contact Corporate via email has been unsuccessful.
But, assuming I am grasping at straws and I am just another victim of false reporting, where do I go from here? I understand I will most likely have to send snail mail to all the CB’s and to the company’s headquarters (damn) with receipt to get this resolved so I guess what I need is to know where to go to get an example of the proper letter to send, etc etc.
I really do despise this particular company and I hope their new merging company totally rips them apart.
