The kepi is the french militarie’s standard headgear. I recall seeing de gaulle wearing one, and it was worn by officers of the navy and airforce as well. Is it still worn? And the version worn by the Foreign legion (white, with a cloth in the rear)-is it still worn?
Wikipedia says the Kepi is still worn but not as much as they used to be.

A kepi is basically a shako that has been chopped down to a more practical size.
Coincidentally or not, isn’t kepi almost identical to the Yiddish word for “(little) head”? When my nephew was little is step-grandad used to point to his head and tell him it was his “keppi”.
