I’ve asked many people and different people say different things. For instance, I’ve had people say that it’s the hot water that shrinks it and not the dryer, and others said the complete opposite. The cause for this question is my new T shirt. Unfortunately the smallest size they had, was a little too big, so I put it in the washer on my “Hot-cold” setting and then dried it afterwards. It shrunk, but not enough. I need the most effective way to shrink a shirt, because no one can seem to give me, dare I say, the straight dope.:smack:
I have a pair of unsanforized jeans that required a hot-soak before wear. I let them soak in very hot water for four hours, and then hung them to dry afterward. They lost close to three inches on the inseam.
I’ve had to do a similar thing with a couple of my t-shirts. I’d suggest filling your kitchen sink with the hottest water possible, and then letting it soak for an hour. Throw it in a washer, again using the hottest water possible. Afterward, set your dryer to high heat and allow it to tumble dry.
If it hasn’t shrunk enough after two cycles, there’s little else you can do.
he can gain weight…
As you get older, the shirt will definitely shrink . . . until you reach middle age, and you won’t be able to get it on.
I can attest to this.
I have a metal necklace that has noticeably shrunk over the last few years, and is now unwearable.
