What's the scam here? Guy offers to fix my dents in parking lot.

Rucksinator’s recent thread reminded me of this scam. This has happened to me twice in the Kroger parking lot by two different people.

A guy in a truck approaches me as I’m getting out of MY truck. He offers to fix all the dents in my truck for $150. It’s a high pressure pitch. He tells me it’s now or never. He’s got his bosses tools and he has to give them back in the morning.

Every time I told him “No”, he would drop the price down. All the way down to $20! After my last “No” he gets all pissy with me and storms off.

Both times, this is exactly how the story went. The first time it happened, I had a mild feeling I was being scammed. The second time it happened, I had no doubt I was being scammed. Yet, I’m not exactly sure what the scam was. Anybody know?

Well, its not really a scam, but all he can do is use a suction cup to pull the dents out.

He is broke, hungry, in withdrawal symptoms, and he wants some cash.
Why would he have to return the tools ?

Why would he not just own the suction cup ?
And what if the part can’t stand the effort of the suction cup.
He might set off an air bag if the inner frame comes away with the outer skin.
Who’s going to pay to replace the airbag ?
And what happens is that when you go to the ATM and get out $300 cash,
and he sees it ?These cold caller types may be unable to resist the temptation to take more than they were promised…

Arround the home, they mow the lawn for $20, then when the old lady gets $20 out of her life savings of $2500… he says the $2500… and comes back later that night…

He doesn’t really fix the dent.
