Helen Mirren was made a Dame and there is a picture of her with two medals on her dress. I’ve been searching the Net without success to see what honor she was actually granted and what the medals are (and why two).
Is a Dame the equivalent of a Knight? And, wouldn’t she be invested (if that’s the word) into an Order? Can anyone help with details?

She was invested as a Dame Commander of the Order of the British Empire.
She is shown wearing the star and badge of that grade.
