What's the story behind "$1000 gift cards"?

I checked my email recently and it included an offer to give me a $1000 gift card if I just completed a short survey. I clicked on the link and it showed a page with spots for my personal information and some survey questions. It said it was the first page. I checked the confirmation conditions and they were so heavy with mentions of other surveys and “projects” that I didn’t go any further. So what’s the story of these offers? How hard is it to get the gift card? How does the firm offering it make money?

They usually set the terms and conditions to be so hard that virtually nobody gets the gift card. You might have to fill out surveys every day for 6 months and do everything to the letter or you may have to go out and buy products yourself and then fill out surveys on your expensive purchases. There are much easier ways to make money like picking up cans beside a busy highway after dark.

You’ll have to sign up for many different things that you have to cancel later (and good luck with that, they won’t make it easy.)

Stay far away.

The main deal is they get your personal information, and you have to purchase merchandise from certain client to qualify for the money, computer, television or whatever large value prize they are offering. I recommend the same thing of stay far away from the offer.

In addition to the above, your email address will be sold to every spammer out there.
