What's the typical hourly rate for marriage counseling services?

I have no clue what this type of service costs or what they actually do for that matter. Wife and I aren’t in a violent marriage or anything and we aren’t on the verge of divorce it we are having some significant communication issues that aren’t working themselves out and could lead to real marital issues later so I want to try to head them off now.

We don’t do church and don’t want any sort of spiritual based counseling so alot of what I see out there is not an option. More looking for an unbiased arbitrator who can unemotionally guide us through some conversation minefields and objectively say when one of us is being unreasonable.

We aren’t rich so what does thistype of thing normally run?

It varies by the type of provider and your location but expect $75 - $100 an hour as an average. Some therapists having sliding payment scales if you have income well below average.

If you’re in the USA, go to the county website of the county you live in.

Most have links to sliding fee scales. It’s best to go look into it ASAP, as there are waiting lists for sliding fee services and they use "scope of problems’ as a determining factor. In other words, a person with “marital problems” is going to have to wait if you have someone “hearing voices” also needing help.

Our relationship therapist is charging $AU160 to see one of us for an hour or $AU200 for both at the same time.

We pay $180 CAN an hour for ours, but most do sliding scales based on your income.

I’m sorry, please forgive me but I just have to hare this true story. Our marriage counselor charges $3.50 for a shot and $2.50 for a beer.

Check at work to see if you have an EAP - I just went to a counseling session with my ex today and my EAP covers 12 sessions.

Wow, and here I was thinking that this guy charging $200 is exaggerated satire based on the affluent 90s. Guess not…
