I’m not sure if the centipedequalifies as an insect, but the first time I saw one in my yard about 18 years ago, I just about jumped out of my skin. The cats were tossing it around. Yuck. The dark body and bright orange legs made it look like something from outer space or some deranged toy factory. I took a picture of this one with my phone and my hands were shaking badly, so it’s little blurry. Bear in mind it’s about seven inches long.
Beauty is is skin deep, but ugly goes clean to the chitinous exoskeleton.
