What's The Worst HBO Program?

I’ve never seen Sex in the City. When S. J. Parker’s character was upset, did anyone ever ask “Why the long face?”

sorry, I’ll be going now

“Curb Your Enthusiasm”. David doesn’t write scripts and it shows. Imagine a series produced by George Costanza. Arliss is bad, this is much, much worse.

Yikes. This is absolutely my favroite HBO show.

Worst? Arilss, followed by Oz.

I’ll second that. I watched a couple of episodes and said to myself “how does such a neurotic asshole have ANY friends to make a show about?”.

That’s the only really bad show. Shows like The Wire, Arli$$, Oz, and Six Feet Under are ok I guess but I just can’t get into them.

Unlike most television–which is consistently horrible–HBO is wildly inconsistent. On the one hand, Arli$$ and Sex and the City are simply moronic–often offensively so. On the other hand, The Sopranos is probably the most beautifully written show television has ever known.

I’m with Happy Lendervedder on Curb Your Enthusiasm. I’ve had several friends who were pointlessly contrarian and antagonistic, they are a lot of fun in small doses.

The one episode of Arli$$ that really impressed me was the episode where the good-ol’-boy football coach was being investigated by a dogged NCAA official for giving money to players. Does the coach get away clean? No, which was a surprise given the cynical nature of the show. And as a final twist, we discover that the NCAA official is not only doing his job, but seeking revenge – in his college days, he was an up-and-coming cross-country runner whose scholarship was pulled in order to give it to that selfsame football coach.

But most any terrible series can produce a winning episode once in a while.
