I don’t know what Ben Franklin said but it sounds like you’re referring to the change-over from the Julian to the Gregorian calendar, when 12 days were lost. That’d be about two weeks rather than two years. It happened sometime before our revolution

It happened on various dates in various countries. It started in 1582, when Rome made the change by skipping 10 days in October. Most Roman Catholic countries changed quickly, but most Protestant countries dragged their feet, until astronomers could pound it into rulers’ heads that it was a scientific issue, not a religious one, and that Pope Gregory had it right and that was that. England and its various colonies and possessions did the following:
