You know how, when you go to lift like a box or a soda can that you think is full, but it’s actually empty, so you pick it up using more force than what’s needed, sort of jerking it upward? Or when you get to the top of the stairs but you think there’s another stair but there isn’t, so you put your foot down at stair height and, when you lift your back foot, fall forward? Is there a name for that phenomenon?
OK, I looked at the other thread and I don’t think the question is answered. Cognitive dissonance doesn’t seem to fill the bill.
