What's this gunk in my glasses?

Behind the little nose protectors on my glasses, there’s this green… gunky-type stuff that’s building up. I imagine it comes from the oils in my face, but does anybody know anything more specific about it? Also, what do you suggest to get rid of it in an expeditious fashion?

supposed to be acid reacting with the metal, toothpaste may help?

Green gunk on glasses

The green guck is your sweat reacting or oxidising with the copper in your frames. The best way to clean it out is to drop it in a sonic cleaner ( most jewellers use these to clean jewellery) or the good old hot saopy water & an old tooth brush.

Next time you get new glasses, get a titanium frame as it is hypo allergenic and won’t go green, alternatively get your optometrist to adjust your frames up off your face to minimise contact with your skin.

The only reason I know this as I used to work in an optometrists practice & we saw it all the time.

Congrats, jeannestr, on your first post. Welcome to the board.

Verdigris.

I put mine in the dishwasher (don’t do this if the lenses are coated, and make sure they can’t rattle around and get scratched).
