What's Trump's end game for the last 14 days of his presidency?

That seems to be assuming that Ted Cruz has the capacity to feel shame, which IMHO is contradicted by a recent tweet where he finger-wagged at Biden (for using the phrase “the Big Lie” about the “stolen election” myth), saying “This kind of vicious partisan rhetoric only tears our country apart”.

I mean, deliberately promoting lies about electoral fraud and calls for a violent insurrection, and then complaining that being called out on your lies is “vicious partisan rhetoric” that “tears our country apart”? Now that’s chutzpah.

His options for what to do for his remaining days have been lessened just a bit, because he just got banned from another social media- Pornhub.

It would not surprise me to learn that Ted Cruz has literally chewed his own testicles off to win approval from Trump voters. He is truly a pathetic creature of his political ambitions (never to be realized, I hope), but in some effort at empathy I assume deep down he knows his humiliation and wishes he could be a better class of grub.

Stranger

I don’t think he can get much grubbier.

Satire, sorry.

Too bad. On the plus side, it means his little hands will be kept busy.

On or just before Biden’s inauguration DC police must be aware tRump will unleash his Dogs of War again, but this time with lots more killing than at the Capitol assault. Expect hundreds or even thousands of ARMED followers to run amok, including many of the rioters at the Capitol not arrested yet. Authorities must monitor incoming flights, hotel reservations, etc. for known tRump extremists and meet them with overwhelming force when they start to mass. Anything less is willful negligence. FBI, National Guard, Homeland Security need to mobilize and coordinate, which takes time.

National Guard from Virginia, Maryland, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Delaware, and New York are in DC until at least the inauguration.

Pennsylvania is prepared to use lethal force if necessary.

Trump does have a counter to them. He could federalize them and order them home. Let’s hope he doesn’t think of that. Also hope those units are not as infested with MAGAts as most police forces are.

The president can call the National Guard into federal service for certain conditions, but I’m not sure that means he can order them to stand down when he’s not the one who called them in to start with. If that happened it would probably result in a court case to establish a precedent.

I question this. Back before I retired, I worked with a lot of extreme right wingers. And I remember several of them expressing dismay at the idea that John McCain had picked a woman as his running mate. Running the country ain’t no job for the womenfolk. Everyone knows it goes against nature.

In that specific instance, they were right.

Stopped clocks being what they are.

I think even the most misogynistic conservatives would be in board with Ivanka as a “Ma Ferguson” — i.e. a female puppet to hold office while a man really runs things.

I think Trump lost his ability to give orders to the white supremacy crowd. He told them to riot, they followed his commands, and then he denounced them afterwards. I feel if Trump tries to unleash any Dogs of War next week, he won’t get a lot of takers.

See also Eva Perón and Cristina Fernández de Kirchner. As long as she’s good-looking the male MAGAts will be fine with it.

It’s the gender-inverse of the “Men want to be him; women want to be with him” school of infatuation with larger-than-life characters.

On a related note, If Hillary had been hot the attacks on her dating back to Bill’s presidency would have been very different.

Dunno about that.

Sarah Palin wasn’t disqualified for the job by being a woman. She was disqualified for the job by being an idiot.

Dan Quayle was similarly disqualified. But you’ll notice who got enough right wing votes to get elected and who didn’t.

To expand on that point, here’s some people who tried to get nominated in the Republican party but couldn’t get enough Republican votes; Michele Bachmann, Herman Cain, Ben Carson, Elizabeth Dole, Carly Fiorina, Bobby Jindal, Alan Keyes.

This why I laugh every time I hear conservatives saying Nikki Haley is the ideal Republican candidate. It shows a stunning lack of awareness of who the Democratic base will vote for and who the Republican base will not vote for.

I agree the potential for rioting is still there. I’m just saying Trump has lost the ability to call up a riot.

In fact, the best thing Trump could do right now is call for white nationalists to show up and protest the inauguration. If he was making the call, they would probably all stay home just to spite him.

Even if he could under normal circumstances, I think the events of the last week make crystal clear that anyone in the military can assume that any order from the CinC is an illegal order. His orders would now surely be ignored by anyone who is not in collusion with him.
