I eagerly await evidence that this thesis is true because I’d love to see public adoration of Trump undergo a reversal into the kind of revulsion any rational person would have had for him from the beginning. But as of yet I have seen no data or real evidence that “his people” are turning on him, and indeed he can pretty much blame any of his failings on “The Deep State” and his supporters will buy it even if it directly contradicts what he said thirty seconds ago. These are not people with functioning critical thinking faculties, and they are eager to be deceived if it means they can continue their cultish adoration or a failed businessman and reality television host.
Trump’s loyal base is the source of both his pride and his power. He has yet to concede the election, and I doubt he ever will. His canned speech last night, which was clearly written by a PR loyalist, was designed to stop talk about the 25th Amendment and/or a second impeachment. It didn’t work, but it bought him some time. He can either run out the clock playing golf, or try to stir the pot by launching some kind of attack on some nation letting Biden sort out the mess. Whether the military can stall him or flat our refuse a direct order will be interesting to watch. Pence will do nothing since he has nothing to gain by thwarting DT even more at this point. Pence is on the wrong side of history.
Political backbiting and anecdotal stories by a foreign news site are not data or even particularly good qualified speculation. I’ll believe that Trumpests are abandoning him en masse when he throws a rally and only a few dozen malcontents show up.
That is two guys exchanging gripes on a messageboard. They might be as representative of Trumpests overall as Bob and Doug McKenzie are of Canadians. Again, I’d like to see his cultish admirers actually refusing to show up at his rallies and repudiate his obviously baseless conspiranoia before we conclude that he’s actually on the outs. And regardless of how Trumpests adore him or not, while in office he still has the authority of the Office of the President which includes executive control over the military and the ostensible authority to order the use of nuclear weapons. The sooner Trump no longer has access to these tools, the better off we are as a nation. Dealing with his throngs of would-be fascist admirers is a larger and longer term problem than just waiting out the next couple of weeks.
Calling into a members-only breakfast on Thursday morning, the president apologized for missing the meeting, but insisted he wanted to speak. At one point, someone in the room reportedly yelled “we love you” as the president spoke.
At no point, according to the Post’s report, did Trump mention the events of Wednesday, when a mob of his supporters stormed the U.S. Capitol in an effort to disrupt the congressional certification of the Electoral College vote.
The thing about Parler is that I’m pretty sure a large percentage of the people posting are liberals with fake accounts. It’s really easy because it’s a fresh platform and no one has history. Take it from @Maganautical.
It’s really boring for a cesspool, the high profile names just repost right wing news stories and the idiots, real and fake, try to outdo each other with comments. And most of those high profile right wing celebs that claimed to be moving to Parler set up accounts but never used them.
Parler’s not a threat, if Trump joined I don’t even know how you’d find him in the sea of people claiming to be Trump.
I tried to create an account there just to lurk but it would not accept my Google voice number as a valid phone number. I don’t know why, it is indistinguishable from any other cell phone AFAIK.
I think it would be good at this point for a group of senior republican senators to approach Trump and tell him to resign immediately, otherwise they will convict him in the Senate one day after the house votes to impeach on Monday. And he will suffer the shame of being the only president to ever be convicted and removed from office.
Isn’t this pretty much what finally convinced the crazy Nixon to resign?
Convince Trump that Nixon did the right thing, and he’d just be like Nixon. And everyone loves Nixon now, right?
Whoever it is, they need to tie a rope around him when they send him in to tell Donnie so they can retrieve the body if necessary.
Ancient Jewish history: In the Second Temple period, some people who were unfit took the position of High Priest. When they entered the Holy of Holies on Yom Kippur, they died, since they lacked the ability to handle the spiritual power of that place.
The other priests had to devise a plan to pull the dead body out, since no one other than the High Priest was allowed to enter in the Holy of Holies. So they tied a golden rope to the High Priest’s leg when he entered the Holy of Holies on Yom Kippur.
You think he’d even want to lay eyes on Lindsay any more?
It’s a tough one because I don’t think he’s ever had anyone that he actually respects since Fred died. Remember, even Jared and Ivanka have been staying out of town because they know it’s pointless to try to get to him in this mode.
tRump DID incite the Proud Boys to attack Congress. Five people died in the assault. tRump isn’t sorry he did it, just sorry he couldn’t kill all the Congress members who didn’t support him.
You’re right deRanger. I misread the situation badly. I didn’t think Trump would really risk impeachment or the 25th Amendment in an effort to overturn the election he lost “bigly”. I should never underestimate the stupidity of a deranged politician.
